Vejer de la Frontera

Vejer de la Frontera is a beautiful Andalucian town in the province
of Cadiz, situated on a 200 meter high hill top, with views over
the surrounding countryside and the Atlantic Ocean.

In 1976 Vejer was gentled the status of Area of Historic and Artistic Interest. Vejer de la Frontera is a historical town dating back to the Palaeolithic. It contains several ancient churches and convents, and the architecture of many of its houses and streets recalls the period of Moorish rule.

Activities:

This part of Andalusia offers a great number of entertaining and
interesting activities:

In first case our thoughts go to long, sunny days on extensive Atlantic beaches of fine white sand, in many cases completely unexploited. But of course there are possibilities to a great variety of activities such as visiting other “white villages”, cycling, bird watching, paragliding, horse riding, whale watching in Tarifa, surfing ect. We can easily play golf in the area (5 km’s to the closest golf course).

In this area we find the natural parks “Los Alcornocales and El Parque
Natural de las Breñas.

This part of the Atlantic Coast, with long white sand beaches, goes all the way from the Straits of Gibraltar to Portugal and is denominated “Costa de la Luz” because of its intensive light.

Tarifa a mecca for surfers is on a comfortable distance to Vejer, about 40 minutes drive.

Half way between Vejer and Tarifa we arrive to the village Bolonia. Here we can visit the Roman ruins of “Baelo Claudia”

It is also worthwhile to visit some of the nearest Andalusian cities like
Cadiz, Jerez or Seville. In these towns we will find a big variety
of activities, cultural and historical monuments.

Good food and beverages should of course stay high on the agenda when visiting Andalusia. Good local wines (Jerez, Manzanilla…) and fish courses are characteristic for this region. .
